Hope that's fueled by love

My friends, do you believe God sees, knows, cares, is able and most likely already at work?
In the work I do I meet with individuals and families who struggle with addiction themselves or who love someone who is struggling. It can be messy, complex and yet beautiful when we see God show up!
I also engage an amazing variety of Substance Use Disorder treatment providers as well as therapists and faith leaders who are ready, willing and able to help people discover recovery, hope and healing .
It can take time to get the mind clear enough to understand the deeper implications of this complex monster called addiction. This week I spent some time with a local clinical treatment team who is doing incredible work to help people get their body and mind clean and sober. I have the joy of entering into these arenas, often introduced, as “Pastor Dan.” I’m on mission to listen, learn, love, and lead as the Lord leads.
When I think about addiction, I liken it to the schemes of “the thief” whom Jesus spoke about in John 10 “The thief comes to steal, kill and destroy…” That’s what addiction does. Steals time, treasure and talent with lies and false promises of fun, etc. Kills hopes and dreams, relationships, and yes this thief kills people. Destroys lives, families, even disrupting legacy! “But God…”
There is a solution and many ways to find recovery. For HRR we are confident God is at work in so many unique ways and specialized services. We trust that God is longing to be discovered for the HOPE our hearts long for. As a former Mission’s Pastor I recognize the reality that God is often at work before His Name is known. When trouble comes and it always does, people look up, they hope, they pray… Trouble happens, but God…
Jesus continues in the second part of vs. 10, after he notes the thief’s activities, with the following:“…but I have come that you would have life to the fullest”. John 10:10
Yes! Jesus says He’s here to rescue us from the schemes of this thief, to save us and to give us life - eternal. I didn’t always believe that. It’s sad that I and many might think Jesus came to “shut down all the fun in life” or “make us feel guilty” No, my friend, Jesus came that we would have a life of joy, freedom, hope and purpose.
Hope gets us out of bed, moves our feet, motivates our hearts and minds.
Hope empowers us to endure.
Hope believes in the future.
HOPE pursues recovery again and again, facing each day with expectation.
You will take your own steps of faith, but you are not alone. HRR is here to hope with you and for you!

HRR Assessments / Referrals:
2024 HRR received over 100 calls, met with another 50+; individuals, families and faith leaders, asking for recovery support and resources. Each call is handled with individual attention for the sake of discovering the best next step for the unique situation.
Our database for referrals continues to grow. I’m discovering more Church communities that express the loving kindness, mercy and grace of Jesus to those searching for hope and healing. Our database of clinical / therapeutic professionals shows us that God is at work in this field and that our God is able to meet people in these environments for the sake of discovering faith, freedom, and purpose.
Interventions:
Hiring an Interventionist is costly and certainly worth it when people respond well.
Average cost $6000 ~ sadly about 50% enter and complete treatment— 75% relapse after 1 year. Personally, Pastor Dan staged 4 over this last year ~ 2024—at no cost to the families. These intentional gatherings of family and friends with relational equity, bore favorable results; Each member of the Intervention team becomes more informed about addictions while discovering their own personal responsibilities to express “love and truth.” All of which empowers not only those involved but also the recovery candidate. HRR saw 100% entered a recovery context.

Affordable Faith Based Sober Living:
We are located in safe neighborhoods that are close to faith & recovery communities.
~ HRR Women’s Sober Living House (3 Bdrm. / 2 Bath ~ Capacity for 3 resident guests, or 3 rooms single moms can share with their kids)
We’ve hosted 6 women in 2024, The house is currently FULL.
We landscaped the backyard and have hosted some HRR family events! It’s quite nice, a park like environment!
~ HRR MSL Men’s House: (3 Bdrm. / 2 Bath ~ Capacity for 6 resident guests)
Since Jan. 2024 we’ve hosted 18 men. The Men’s House added a well-equipped gym in the garage!
We love all our resident guests and believe great things for each of them. What a privilege to see the stage set and people grab hold for such healing and hope!

We now have space to meet with individuals and families to talk through sensitive matters as well as offer some coaching and study space for Recovery with Jesus.

Christian Leadership workshops / Runway to discipleship / 12 steps to spiritual formation

Aspirations for 2025:
Hire an office assistant. My coach (and my wife) are encouraging me to free myself up to spend the majority of my time doing what I’m best at—building redemptive relationships, meeting people where they are at and helping them discover their best next steps in their recovery and faith journey. Publish “Recovery with Jesus” curriculum. This curriculum has been tried, tested, and honed for more than two decades. It works!
