Can We Really Give Thanks in the Mess of Addiction?
At Harbor Rock Recovery,
we believe the answer is yes.
Even in the hardest places, especially there, God is still at work. HRR exists to help people discover real solutions to life’s struggles with addiction and to find purpose through faith and community.
Life can feel so fragile, can’t it? Many of us have walked through more pain and challenges than we’d ever want to recall.
But God… always near, never distant, an ever-present help in times of trouble. Sometimes He even works behind the scenes in ways we don’t immediately see.
The Scriptures remind us:
“God causes ALL things to work together for good, for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28
Addiction doesn’t just affect one person, it ripples out, touching families, friends, and entire communities. The consequences reach far and wide.
The Reality of Addiction in America
(Excerpted from the NCDAS website)
The cost of drug abuse in the U.S. is nearly $820 billion per year, accounting for crime, healthcare, lost productivity, and other societal impacts.
$193 billion in costs for illegal drugs, plus $78.5 billion for prescription opioids.
$11 billion in healthcare costs from illegal drugs and $161 billion for prescription opioids.
In 2021, nearly 600,000 hospitalizations occurred due to nonfatal overdoses or poisonings—some accidental, others intentional.
In 2016, there were 967,615 ER visits for nonfatal overdoses, most involving opioids.
New psychoactive substances (NPS) keep entering the market—449 known in 2013, rising to 641 by 2023.
Nearly 45% of people with substance use disorder also experience mental illness
48.4 million people aged 12 or older (that’s 16.8% of the population) had a substance use disorder in the past year.
Yet only about 19.3% of those who needed treatment actually received it.
The Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment market in the U.S. was valued at about $13.01 billion in 2024, and it continues to grow.
How Harbor Rock Recovery Can Help
Finding the right next step toward recovery can be confusing and overwhelming. That’s where HRR’s assessment and referral consultation can make a real difference.
Here’s what we help you do:
SUD care? Detox? Mental health care? Hospitalization? Residential or outpatient treatment? Faith-based or sober living?
Finding the right fit matters.
We use a harm reduction lens to determine the most immediate threats to life and recovery. Addiction affects the body (physical allergy to substances), the mind (mental obsession or chemistry disorder), and the spirit (a sense of disconnection or brokenness).
Identify available resources
Understanding what’s within reach is key to making progress. We as a community, frankly as a nation, are resource rich. There’s a place to go but finding the next right step can be a challenge.
Identify the person’s willingness
Victory begins with surrender
Recovery begins with readiness.
Hitting bottom can be as simple as saying ”I surrender” or as complicated as broken relationships, lost jobs, anger, depression, sickness, hospitals, jails or institutions…
