OVERWHELMED?

Life can feel overwhelming.

Between cultural tension, family dynamics, real health concerns—and even the ups and downs of the Los Angeles Dodgers—it doesn’t take much for our minds and hearts to feel crowded. All of it presses inward. And how we respond often reveals the state of our spiritual fitness.

For many of us, active addiction once served as a way to cope—to numb, escape, or avoid. But it never truly helped. In recovery, we learn a different way: to face what’s real, process what we feel, and walk forward with clarity and purpose. We begin to live healthy, sober, and productive lives without being crushed by the weight of it all.

Here are three simple practices to help:

1) Stay in your lane: Start with the person in the mirror. Not everyone else. Remember who you are according to your faith: a child of God—known, forgiven, and guided by His Spirit. Comparison and control will wear you out. Identity brings peace. Matthew 7:1-5

2) Get wisdom—and walk it out: Learn what is yours to do, then do it. Train your feet to follow a path that reflects who you are. Obedience often comes before understanding. As you align your thoughts with God’s promises, your perspective begins to shift—and so does your life. James 3:13

3) Live what you believe: “Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see” (Hebrews 11:1). What we believe shows up in how we live. At Harbor Rock Recovery, we’ve seen God meet people in the depths—addiction, isolation, despair—and bring real hope and healing.
